Lecture: Stories of Connecticut’s Black Patriots

On April 30th, 2026 at 6:30pm, John Mills will be giving a lecture at the Russell Mercier Senior Center in Hebron, CT.

During this presentation, John will delve into the lives and experiences of some of the men who enlisted in Connecticut's Colored Regiments during the Revolutionary and Civil War, what drove them to enlist and the perspective of Connecticut at the time. John will also discuss legislation that affected those of color in Connecticut as well as his research into past enslaved individuals in Connecticut, highlighting their experiences and his work to acknowledge them.

This event will be in collaboration with Chris Barlow of the Berlin Equity Action Team. As part of his presentation, Chris will be showing his award winning short film about the 29th Connecticut Colored Regiment.
