On February 23, 2025 at 6:30pm, John Mills will be giving a lecture for the Manchester Public Library in Manchester, CT.
Although many Black men served during the Revolutionary War, the Militia Act of 1792 made it illegal for Black men to enlist in state militias. The 1862 Militia Act changed all of that, leading to the creation of Connecticut’s 29th and 30th Colored Regiments during the Civil War. During this presentation, Mills will delve into the many unknown stories representing the African American men who served during the Revolutionary War, and the lineage of service within their families that continued into the Civil War.
We will share the registration link once it is available.
