Isaac J. Hill Headstone Installation

  • Presbyterian Burial Ground 800 North Broad Street Woodbury, NJ, 08096 United States (map)

Isaac J. Hill

Tentatively scheduled for February 26th, we are planning to install a new memorial headstone for Pvt. Isaac J. Hill, a former soldier with the 29th Connecticut Colored Regiment during the Civil War.

After the war, Isaac moved to New Jersey where he would die on October 17th, 1882. He and his wife were buried at Red Bank Colored Cemetery in Woodbury, New Jersey. In 1962, the city took over Red Bank Colored Cemetery, building a parking garage over it and claimed to have moved the bodies (and some stones) across town to Broad Street Cemetery, now called the Presbyterian Burial Ground.

In working with the U.S. Office of Veterans Affairs, we were able to get a new headstone approved for Isaac. The new headstone is expected to be delivered around February 15th. Cooper Monuments in New Jersey has agreed to install it for us.

The cemetery is located at 800 Broad Street, Woodbury, NJ. The tentative schedule is for installation to occur at Noon on March 23rd. As we get closer to the date, we will refine the date and time.

Please join us for the installation if you are in the area!
